La Gendronnière Zen Temple

The Zen temple of La Gendronnière is a meeting place for all the European sanghas (communities of practitioners) of the lineage of Master Taisen Deshimaru. This Japanese missionary introduced the practice of Zen to Europe at the end of the 1960s.

Following his death in 1982, his successors made La Gendronnière the mother temple of European Zen. Retreats are organised there every month, and the summer months offer a unique opportunity for all practitioners to gather and practise together, according to the rules of a traditional monastery.
